There was a time when I thought a “full face” meant layers of foundation, contour, highlight, and a detailed routine that took forever to perfect. But the more I started paying attention to my skin — and actually taking care of it — the more I realized I didn’t need as much as I thought. Once your skin is thriving, the makeup becomes more about enhancing, not hiding.

I started leaning into minimal makeup and realized just how powerful a simple routine can be. When you’re consistent with skincare, nourishing your body, and keeping your skin hydrated, the glow really does come from within. And when that happens, the makeup you apply becomes the cherry on top — not the main attraction.

These days, my everyday makeup routine is simple and effective. I start with concealer, only applying it to the high points of my face (under the eyes, a little on the forehead, and right under my cheekbones for a more chizzled look) and over any blemishes or areas that need a little extra coverage. Since my skin is already pretty clear, I don’t feel the need to go overboard. Then, I add a blush balm or cream blush for that natural flush. Cream products melt right into the skin and make you look lit-from-within, especially if you have dry skin like I do.

Then, I follow up with a bit of highlighter right above my blush, and on the tip and bridge of my nose. If you have oily skin, a light dusting of powder in your T-zone can help control shine, but if your skin is on the drier side, you can skip it altogether and finish with a hydrating setting spray. That dewy glow hits different when your base is lightweight.

I also never skip curling my lashes — it’s one of those tiny steps that instantly makes you look more awake and put together. Mascara is totally optional. I usually skip it unless I’m doing a full face for a night out.

To top everything off, I always reach for a lip liner that’s super close to my natural lip color. I like to slightly overline the top center and bottom center of my lips for a subtle, poutier effect, then go in with my favorite gloss or lip oil to bring it all together.

Don’t get me wrong; I still love full glam and enjoy practicing it. It’s fun and artistic, and I save it for special occasions or nights out when I really want to go all in. But for everyday life, this minimalist routine makes me feel radiant, fresh, and most importantly — like me. And best of all, it's quick and efficient if you have to run out the door, but need to look put together!
